Training Opportunity: Adult Education and Training (AET)
In South Africa, a number of people are illiterate due to lack of schooling or early dropout. Adult Education and Training (AET) programs now provide an opportunity for employed individuals to learn at their own pace. SETAs must include AET in their Annual Performance Plan to combat illiteracy and improve citizens’ lives.
The Services Sector Skills Plan 2024/25 regarding the level of education, the WSP/ATR data indicate that some of the workforce has not completed secondary education (3%), with most having completed secondary education (83%). Only 13% of the workforce had tertiary education.
The Services SETA is partnering with Optimi Workplace to support this initiative, allocating funds to train 184 eligible individuals in AET within the services sector. Employers within the Services SETA’s scope are invited to apply for this training opportunity for their employees, which covers Numeracy and Literacy Learning Areas.
