Services SETA and QCTO Partner to Launch Transformative Internship Programme
Services SETA and the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) have launched a new Internship Programme funded by Services SETA. This strategic initiative aims to accelerate the transition from pre-2009 to occupational qualifications, marking the start of an incredible journey for the 35 selected interns. The Accounting Authority approved the programme to speed up the implementation of occupational qualifications, which is one of its key priorities.
The QCTO conducted a two-day onboarding for the interns on 01 to 02 August 2024.
Strengthening Workforce and Enhancing Employability
The internship programme signifies the beginning of an exciting journey for 35 interns, who will play a pivotal role in facilitating processes and bolstering human resources as the industry transitions from pre-2009 qualifications to occupational qualifications. This initiative aims to advance occupational qualifications swiftly and effectively.
A Diverse and Talented Cohort
The interns, selected from a rich tapestry of academic disciplines such as law, information technology, business management, and social sciences, hailing from diverse geographical locations, are set to shape their professional future through this programme. Their diverse knowledge and skills will be instrumental in the programme’s success. The interns will be introduced to the dynamic world of work, receiving comprehensive training and essential skills to meet industry demands and expectations.
Addressing Human Resources Gaps
Our interns will be crucial in filling significant gaps as the industry transitions from pre-2009 to occupational qualifications. They will provide essential support and expertise to ensure a smooth process, playing a key role in this significant industry transition. Placed at the QCTO offices in Pretoria, the interns will gain theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in QCTO’s core functions and support services, emerging as well-rounded professionals ready to tackle future challenges.
Focus on Employability
“The primary objective of this programme is to increase the graduates’ chances of employability,” emphasised QCTO Chief Executive Officer, Mr Vijayen Naido. “This experience will provide interns with valuable skills in accreditation, qualification development, and insights into quality assurance, significantly boosting their career prospects.”
Services SETA CFO, Mr Tsheola Matsebe, also highlighted the importance of the programme: “The graduates will serve the SETAs as their primary stakeholders, enhancing their understanding and capabilities in various sectors.”
A World of Opportunities
Life is an oyster for these interns. They will leave the programme as all-round professionals, equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue various career paths. “The future is full of possibilities. Whether starting a business, becoming experts, working in PSET institutions, or following their studied path, the experience will be valuable,” said one of the presenters during the onboarding session.
Inspirational Journeys
Many presenters at QCTO shared their journeys, revealing that they, too, started as interns and now lead departments and units. These stories serve as powerful motivation, demonstrating that reaching great heights is possible with dedication and hard work. This message resonates deeply with the interns, inspiring them to take their roles seriously and strive for excellence.
Conclusion
The internship programme is a significant step in the interns’ professional development. It not only enhances their employability but also strengthens the workforce as the industry transitions to occupational qualifications. We proudly support these interns on their journey and look forward to seeing them succeed.
